Our school always strives to ensure that learning is multi-faceted, and children can apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Students were able to see how mathematical principles underlie natural phenomena, engineering solutions, and even art. This helped them understand that mathematics is not just a set of rules, but a universal language describing the universe.<\/p>\n
Learning through interaction! Each exhibit at the Science Museum was designed to spark research interest and show mathematics from an unexpected angle. AISU students enthusiastically immersed themselves in the learning process:<\/p>\n

- Puzzles and optical illusions. Children enthusiastically solved logical problems that demonstrated the principles of combinatorics and probability theory. Optical illusions made them think about how our brains perceive information, and how geometry can affect visual perception. It was a great way to develop critical thinking and creativity.<\/li>\n
- Mirror mazes and line curves. Passing through mirror mazes, students experienced firsthand the principles of reflection and symmetry, as well as the laws of optics. Exhibits showing different types of curves, from parabolas to hyperbolas, helped them visualize abstract mathematical functions and understand their applications in the real world – from architecture to physics.<\/li>\n
- Riddles of Fibonacci and the Golden Ratio. Of particular interest were the exhibits dedicated to the Fibonacci number and the Golden Ratio – mathematical patterns found in nature, art and architecture. The students were amazed to learn that these mathematical relationships can be found in the spirals of the shell, the arrangement of flower petals, and even in the proportions of the human body. This discovery added aesthetic appeal to mathematics.<\/li>\n
- Engineering structures and mechanisms. Some exhibits demonstrated how mathematical principles are applied in engineering. Children could test the strength of various geometric shapes, observe the operation of simple and complex mechanisms, which clearly illustrated the importance of calculations in construction and engineering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\n

The opportunity to interact with the exhibits, discuss them among themselves and with guides contributed to a deeper understanding of the material and sparked interest in further study of Exact Sciences.<\/p>\n
AISU teachers always strive to create a learning environment that encourages curiosity and independent thinking. The trip to the Science Museum was a prime example of this approach, because it showed that mathematics is not only numbers and formulas, but also a source of inspiration, a key to understanding the world and a tool for creating the future. We are sure that this tour not only deepened the knowledge of our students, but also, perhaps, ignited in some of them a spark for future scientific discoveries.<\/p>\n
Adventures in the Museum of mathematics<\/h3>\n
School walls, textbooks, and whiteboards are only part of the educational process. True cognition often occurs outside of them, when Theory meets practice, and abstract concepts take on real forms. A trip to the Science Museum of the small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev was such an unforgettable experience for students of the Private International School AISU. This visit was dedicated not just to viewing the exhibits, but to actively immersing yourself in the world of mathematics, where every student turned into a researcher, inventor and mystery solver.<\/p>\n
The Science Museum is a unique space where mathematics is not a dry discipline, but turns into an exciting game that encourages curiosity and logical thinking. AISU students had the opportunity to interact with a variety of technical and mathematical tools and inventions, each of which opened up new facets of this amazing science. This interactive journey allowed them not only to consolidate their school knowledge, but also to see how mathematics is applied in the real world, from engineering to art.<\/p>\n

- Idea? Show how simple geometric laws can create complex and confusing spaces, as well as how our brains interpret visual information.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops spatial thinking, logic, attention to detail, understanding the laws of optics and geometry. Students learn to navigate challenging environments and critically evaluate visual data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Foucault’s Pendulum.<\/p>\n

- For what? Clearly demonstrates the rotation of the Earth around its axis.<\/li>\n
- Idea? Show that even without observing celestial bodies, it is possible to prove the fact of rotation of the planet using a simple physical phenomenon.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops an understanding of physical laws (inertia), astronomical phenomena, the ability to analyze observations and draw conclusions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- For what? They illustrate the principles of operation of gears, mechanical systems, and basic engineering.<\/li>\n
- Idea? Show how mathematical Relations (number of teeth, diameters) affect the speed of rotation and force transfer.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops logical thinking, understanding of cause-and-effect relationships, fundamentals of mechanics and engineering design.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
A wall with “live” pixels (or”Pixel wall”).<\/p>\n

- For what? Demonstrates the principles of digital imaging, sampling, and forming graphics from individual elements.<\/li>\n
- Idea? Show how a large image consists of many small dots, each of which has its own meaning (color, brightness), which is the basis of digital technologies.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops an understanding of the basics of computer science, digital technologies, Discrete Mathematics, and visual programming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Exhibition “Leonardo Bridge”.<\/p>\n

- For what? Demonstrates the principles of structural stability without the use of fasteners, only due to the mutual pressure of the elements.<\/li>\n
- Idea? Show how simple geometric shapes and physical laws (gravity, resistance) can create strong and self-supporting structures.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops spatial thinking, the basics of static mechanics, an understanding of engineering principles and the importance of balance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- For what? They develop spatial thinking, logic, and creativity by composing shapes from given elements.<\/li>\n
- Idea? Show that you can create many complex objects from simple geometric shapes, as well as develop the ability to see the whole from parts.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops spatial representation, logical thinking, patience, the ability to find non-standard solutions and recognize patterns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Exhibition “Golden Ratio” and the Fibonacci spiral.<\/p>\n

- For what? Demonstrates mathematical patterns found in nature, art, and architecture.<\/li>\n
- Idea? Show that mathematics is the foundation of harmony and beauty in the world, from the structure of sunflowers to the proportions of the human body and famous works of art.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops aesthetic perception of mathematics, understanding of its universality and connection with other fields of knowledge (biology, art, architecture).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Idea? Show the relationship between flat and three-dimensional shapes, and develop an understanding of their properties (the number of faces, vertices, and edges).<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops spatial thinking, fine motor skills, understanding of stereometry and the basics of architecture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Exhibit “crumbling bridge”.<\/p>\n

- For what? Demonstrates the importance of proper load distribution and strength of materials in construction.<\/li>\n
- Idea? Show how even a small change in design or an incorrect calculation can lead to destruction, highlighting the role of mathematics and physics in engineering.<\/li>\n
- What skills does it give the student? Develops an understanding of the basics of construction mechanics, the importance of calculation accuracy, and responsibility in engineering solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

The visit to the Science Museum was not just a tour for AISU students, but a real adventure that allowed them to take a fresh look at mathematics. This was the day when abstract concepts turned into real objects, and formulas into fascinating puzzles. We are sure that such interactive lessons outside the school walls not only deepen knowledge, but also ignite in children a true love of Science and a desire to explore the world around them.<\/p>\n
