They visited the exhibition “to the nation” – a project that combines history, memory, patronage, responsibility and reflections on the future. This event turned into a deep immersion in the Ukrainian past, in the world of people who did not just live in a certain era, but created it, invested their heart, work, talent and even their own wealth in their state.

“To the Nation” is both a look into the future of the nation and an attempt to plunge into its past. The very name of the exhibition has symbolic overtones. The preposition ” to ” can be perceived as a movement, a forward direction, an aspiration. And “nation” is not only a community of people united by language or territory, it is primarily a community of values, memory, culture, and responsibility. Thus, the exhibition “to the nation” is a conversation about the path: from the past through the present to a conscious future.

During the tour, AISU students had the opportunity not only to view the exhibits, but also to take part in interactive tasks, listen to the fascinating stories of the curator, who turned out to be a real history guru. His emotional, deep and at the same time accessible presentation of the material allowed children to be transported for an hour to other centuries – to a time when the word “patron” was not an archaism, but a daily reality.

Patrons are a little-known word for our times. In today’s world, which is often dominated by the cult of rapid success and personal gain, it is difficult to imagine people who voluntarily donated huge sums to the development of education, culture, art or science. But there were times when such figures shaped the spiritual and cultural landscape of Ukraine.

Students learned that sugar beet was once a “cryptocurrency” – after all, it was on the sugar industry that many Ukrainian entrepreneurs became rich in the XIX century. These people did not just accumulate capital, they invested it in schools, museums, libraries, supported artists, scientists, publishers. Economic success became a tool for them to serve society.

The students were particularly impressed by the history of the Tarnovsky family. It was a representative of this family, Vasily Tarnovsky Jr., who sold his estate in Kachanovka to buy the mace of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnitsky. Kachanovka is a well-known cultural center of the XIX century, where artists, composers, and writers visited. To sell such an estate meant to give up the luxurious life and family heritage. But for Tarnovsky, it was more important to preserve a historical relic for the Ukrainian nation. The Hetman’s mace is not just an attribute of power, it is a symbol of statehood, a symbol of struggle, a symbol of Honor. Tarnowski’s action was an example of how a personal sacrifice can turn into a contribution to national memory.

No less fascinating was the story of the Khanenko family – famous Ukrainian collectors and patrons of art. Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko collected unique works of art, creating one of the most valuable collections in Ukraine. During the auctions, they competed with well-known collectors, in particular with representatives of the Tretyakov family, so that the works of Ukrainian artists would remain in their homeland. For them, it was a matter of honor to preserve the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people. Thanks to such people, today there are museums that store priceless artifacts of world and National Art.

<figure class='photonic-pad-photos photonic-level-1 photonic-thumb' style='--dw: 640; It was from this educational center that the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, one of the oldest and most authoritative educational institutions in Eastern Europe, later emerged. Galshka Gulevichevna’s Act is an example of female patronage, an example of foresight and faith in the power of Education. She understood that investing in knowledge is investing in the future of the nation.

Students also heard about Yevhen Chikalenko, an entrepreneur, public figure and philanthropist who supported Ukrainian publications, financed newspapers, and contributed to the development of national consciousness. His words” Love Ukraine to the depths of your own pocket ” have become a symbol of responsible patriotism. For Chikalenko, love for the Motherland was not limited to loud statements – it was manifested in concrete actions, in real expenses, in daily support for the Ukrainian cause.

The interactive part of the exhibition allowed students to feel like participants in historical events. They performed tasks related to the choice of values, modeled situations in which it was necessary to make decisions: leave a valuable artifact abroad or buy it for their country; spend money on their own comfort or on the development of education; support a young artist or pass by. Such exercises helped children understand that history is not only about dates and facts, but above all about people’s choice.

The exhibition “to the nation” reminded AISU students that a nation is not something abstract. These are specific people, specific actions, and specific responsibilities. In different historical periods, it was patrons, educators, and cultural figures who became those who supported the Ukrainian identity, even when statehood was lost.

Returning to school, seventh-graders and eighth-graders actively discussed what they saw. Some people first heard about Galshka Gulevichevna, some became interested in the history of Kachanovka, others thought about what it means to be a patron of art in the XXI century. Is it possible to “love Ukraine to the depths of your own pocket”today? Can modern youth continue the traditions of charity and responsibility?

Exhibition “to the nation” – to remember. Remember that history is made by people. Remember that cultural heritage is not preserved by itself – it must be protected, maintained, and popularized. Remember that each generation has its own duty to the next.

There is hope that something will catch on in the memory of these students. Perhaps, in future history lessons, they will remember the mace of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, Kachanovka, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and Chikalenko’s words. But even if not all the details will remain in the memory, something else is more important – an inner sense of belonging to a great story.

Such events form not only knowledge, but also a worldview. They help us realize that each of us is part of a nation. And the movement” to the nation ” is not only a path to the past, but also a step into a responsible future, where love for your country is measured not by words, but by actions.

AISU school students at the exhibition

Students of the AISU school at the exhibition “to/nation” are no longer just a brief mention in the school Chronicle, but an event that left a noticeable mark on the minds of children. Students at the exhibition became not only spectators, but also participants in a big conversation about national memory, responsibility and values. And that is why it is worth returning to this event once again, adding new impressions, meanings and observations to it.

Students at the exhibition immediately felt the special atmosphere of space. This was not an ordinary exhibition with dry signatures under the exhibits. Each hall seemed to breathe history. Lighting, music, video installations – everything worked to create a presence effect. The students at the exhibition were literally immersed in a different time.

The name “K/nation” symbolically combines the movement forward and the depth of the past. This is exactly what the students of the AISU school felt at the exhibition: history is not something frozen, it is a process in which each generation plays its own role.

The topic of patronage deserved special attention during the tour. Students at the exhibition discovered that the word “patron” is not only a term from the textbook, but also a living story of people who changed the country.

The children learned about the act of Vasily Tarnovsky, who sold the estate in Kachanovka to buy the mace Bogdan Khmelnitsky. Students at the exhibition discussed this decision for a long time: would they be able to sacrifice something personal for the sake of preserving the national symbol? It is these questions that make history alive.

No less vivid was the story about the spouses Bogdan Khanenko and Varvara Khanenko. Students at the exhibition learned that they competed at auctions with representatives of the Pavel Tretyakov family to ensure that the works of art remained in Ukraine. For children, this was a discovery: cultural heritage is also a field of struggle.

A separate section of the exhibition was devoted to education. Students of the AISU school at the exhibition listened with great interest to the story of Galshka Gulevichevna, who donated funds for the creation of the school, which later grew into the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Students at the exhibition vividly discussed how important it is to invest in education today.

For many, this was a personal moment: they realized that they themselves are part of an educational tradition that has a hundred-year history. Students at the exhibition began to look at their own learning differently – as a continuation of a great cause.

<figure class='photonic-pad-photos photonic-level-1 photonic-thumb' style='--dw: 640; Students at the exhibition thought that patriotism is not only an emotion, but also a concrete action. In the interactive format, they were asked to model their own “support fund” – to determine what they would spend their resources on: education, culture, the army, and social projects.

Students at the exhibition actively participated in discussions, argued their positions, argued, and looked for compromises. It was here that history turned into the practice of civic responsibility.

A new element of the exhibition was the “wall of the future”, where everyone could leave their own opinion about what Ukraine should be like in 20-30 years. Students of the AISU school at the exhibition wrote about strong education, honest power, the development of Science, and the support of culture. Students at the exhibition did not just read the stories of patrons of the past – they formulated their own vision of the future.

This moment was the culmination of the tour. The students at the exhibition realized that the nation is a process, and they are already part of it.

After the tour was completed, the students did not leave the exhibition for a long time. They took photos, discussed what they had heard, and asked additional questions to the curator. Students at the exhibition experienced an emotional experience that is difficult to measure with grades or scores.

Students of the AISU school saw examples of courage, foresight, and self-sacrifice at the exhibition. They realized that the nation is based not only on great historical events, but also on specific people and their decisions.

“To Nation” – to remember. Students at the exhibition were convinced that memory is not a burden of the past, but the foundation of the future. Without knowledge of history, it is impossible to build a responsible society.

There is a great hope that students at the exhibition will remember not only the facts, but also the meanings. And in future history lessons, they will be able not only to reproduce information, but also to explain why patronage was important, why cultural heritage needs protection, and why education is a strategic investment.

Students of the AISU school at the exhibition took another step – a step towards realizing that they are part of a big story. And if at least one of them decides to support an educational project, cultural initiative or scientific research in the future, the exhibition has fulfilled its mission.

Students at the exhibition are the present. But they are the future of the nation.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTVCcG9wdXBfYW55dGhpbmclMjBpZCUzRCUyMjExODIlMjIlNUQ=[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]

m.
