This day was remembered by children with vivid impressions, new knowledge and a lively touch of history, which they previously studied only from textbooks. The majestic museum building, located on Starokievskaya Gora, immediately created a special atmosphere – as if the space itself here preserves the memory of thousands of years.<\/p>\n
As soon as the students entered the museum, they were greeted by the silence of the halls filled with ancient artifacts, and a guide who led them through different eras – from ancient times to the present. Children enthusiastically listened to stories, asked questions and carefully examined each exhibit, because each of them had its own unique story.<\/p>\n
One of the first exhibits that the students saw was ceramic dishes of the Trypillian culture. These jugs and bowls, decorated with complex geometric ornaments, impressed children with their beauty and antiquity – after all, they are more than 5-6 thousand years old.<\/p>\n
The Guide explained that trypillians were one of the oldest agricultural crops on the territory of Ukraine. They created dishes not only for household needs, but also for rituals. The ornaments on it had a symbolic meaning: spirals meant the infinity of life, and wavy lines – water as a source of existence.<\/p>\n

Some even compared these patterns to modern designs and noted that they look very stylish even today.<\/p>\n
One of the most famous exhibits that students heard about was the Scythian Golden pectoral. Although the original is kept in the Treasury, the children saw a copy of it and detailed images in the museum.<\/p>\n
This decoration was found in the Tolstaya Mogila mound and dates back to the IV century BC. It is made of pure gold and decorated with scenes from the life of the Scythians: images of people, animals and plants. Pectoral is not just a decoration – it is a kind of story recorded in metal.<\/p>\n
The Guide said that the Scythians were a nomadic people who lived on the territory of Modern Ukraine and had a high level of jewelry art. Students looked at the details of the pectoral for a long time, marveling at the skill of ancient masters.<\/p>\n
The children were particularly interested in the collection of weapons from the time of Kievan Rus. Swords, spearheads, shields, and armor elements were presented here.<\/p>\n
The Guide explained that the sword in those days was not only a weapon, but also a symbol of honor and power. Its production required a lot of skill, because it had to be strong and well-balanced.<\/p>\n
The Children imagined themselves as the Prince’s vigilantes defending their land. Many noted that for the first time they saw real ancient swords not in pictures, but live – and this made a strong impression.<\/p>\n
In the next Hall, the students saw ancient chronicles and books. These were handwritten texts created many centuries ago, which described events, princes and people’s lives.<\/p>\n
The Guide said that The Chronicles are one of the main sources of knowledge about the history of Kievan Rus. They were written by monks, by hand, on parchment, spending months or even years on a single book.<\/p>\n
The students were amazed at how difficult the scribes ‘ work was. They drew attention to the beautiful letters, ornaments and miniatures that decorated the pages.<\/p>\n
A separate part of the tour was made up of an ethnographic exposition. Here students saw traditional Ukrainian clothing, vyshyvankas, towels, pottery and household items.<\/p>\n
The Guide explained that each element of clothing had its own meaning. For example, embroidery not only decorated the shirt, but also served as a talisman. Patterns could tell you about a person’s region, age, and even marital status.<\/p>\n
The children looked at these things with interest, because many of them reminded them of things they saw in their grandparents.<\/p>\n
The exhibition dedicated to the latest history of Ukraine caused the most emotions among children. Subjects related to the events of recent decades – in particular, the revolution of dignity and the war-were presented here.<\/p>\n
The exhibits include hard hats, flags, personal belongings of military personnel, photographs and documents. The guide told the real stories of the people behind these items.<\/p>\n
The students listened very carefully, because this is already a story that takes place in their time. Some even noted that this was the most important part of the tour, because it made you think about the value of peace and freedom.<\/p>\n
After completing the Tour, students of the 7th grade shared their impressions for a long time. Most of all, they liked the fact that the story could not just be listened to, but seen with their own eyes. They noted that the museum is very modern, interesting and not at all boring, as they sometimes imagined.<\/p>\n

The history of the National Museum of the history of Ukraine dates back to the end of the XIX century – in 1899, when the first historical and archaeological collections were founded in Kiev, which later became the basis of the museum collection.<\/p>\n
Initially, the museum did not have a modern status and functioned as an archaeological exhibition at the City Museum of antiquities and arts. Its collections were based on archaeological finds, private collections of patrons, and materials collected during scientific excavations. Already in 1904, this exhibition received the official status of a separate museum, which was an important step in the development of museum business in Ukraine. At the initial stage, the museum existed mainly thanks to the financial support of philanthropists and scientists. However, since 1909, he came under state guardianship, which made it possible to significantly expand his activities and funds. During the XX century, the museum repeatedly changed its location and name, reflecting the complex historical processes that took place in Ukraine. The museum received a modern building in the middle of the XX century: it was built in 1937-1939 by architect Joseph Karakis. After the Second World War, the building was transferred to the Historical Museum, and since then it has become its main home.<\/p>\n
Thus, although the museum does not have one specific “Founder”, its creation was the result of the joint work of Ukrainian archaeologists, historians, patrons and scientific societies of the late XIX – early XX century.<\/p>\n
