Children’s day

Children’s day is one of those dates that reminds Society of the most important things: the right of every child to life, dignity, care, development and security. It is celebrated every year on June 1, and its purpose is to draw the attention of states, the public and everyone to the problems of children in the world and the need to create conditions for their happy and harmonious future. In Ukraine, children’s day is of particular importance, as historically, politically and socially it reflects not only global trends, but also our national priorities and challenges.

Historical origin of children’s day in the world. The idea of creating a special day dedicated to children appeared in the first half of the twentieth century, when the world experienced two devastating wars. In 1925, the World Conference on child welfare was held in Geneva, where international organizations called on governments to pay more attention to the protection of children’s rights. However, the official date fixed at the international level was June 1 in 1950, when the International Democratic Federation of women declared this day the International Day for the protection of children.

The main idea was that the protection of children should become a global priority, since it is children who are the most vulnerable group of the population. Their well-being determines the future of any nation.

How children’s day appeared in Ukraine. In the Soviet Union, which until 1991 included Ukraine, children’s day began to be officially celebrated also in 1950. The holiday quickly gained popularity, as its semantic component was universal and important for all countries. After the declaration of independence, Ukraine retained this date, but filled the content with its own national accents.

A new stage in the formation of child protection policy began after the adoption of the law of Ukraine “on child protection”in 1991. For the first time, the document clearly defined the rights and guarantees for each child at the state level. Later, in 1991-1995, Ukraine joined a number of international conventions, including the UN Convention on the rights of the child – the main document in the field of protection of children’s rights in the world.

Thus, children’s day in Ukraine has gradually turned from a formal calendar holiday into one of the important elements of National Social Policy.

Why does Ukraine need children’s day today? In modern conditions, the importance of this day has increased significantly. There are several key reasons:

1. War and its consequences – after 2014, and especially after the full-scale invasion in 2022, the issue of Child Protection has become one of the most painful. Thousands of children were killed, injured, deported or lost their homes. Children’s day today is not so much a holiday as a reminder of the tragedy of childhood, which should not be overshadowed by war.

2. Problems of education and psychological support – children have the right to quality education, but the war destroyed hundreds of schools and kindergartens. In addition, the psychological state of children has become one of the key social problems. On this day, state and public organizations focus on the need for rehabilitation programs.

3. Declining birth rate – Ukraine has been facing a demographic crisis for many years. Children’s day is also a moment to remind you of the importance of family values, support for fatherhood and motherhood.

4. Children’s rights in society – despite progress, Ukraine is still struggling with the problems of domestic violence, bullying, poverty, and homelessness. Child protection is not a one-time action, but a systematic work that this day should pay maximum public attention to.

Traditions and forms of celebrating children’s day in Ukraine. Despite the fact that the format of the holiday changed during the war, traditionally this day was accompanied by:

  • charity concerts;
  • sports competitions;
  • creative master classes;
  • exhibitions of children’s works;
  • opening of summer camps;
  • actions in support of orphans and children with disabilities.

Today, meetings are often held for the treatment of children, speeches by psychologists, and social programs for internally displaced families. The priority is not entertainment, but safety and support.

The holiday is not only festive, but also human rights – on June 1, forums, conferences, Round Tables dedicated to the topics of child safety and development are held in different countries of the world.

Holiday symbol-green color-green color symbolizes life, harmony and development of the child.

Children’s day has an international status – many countries use this date to report on the implementation of the Convention on the rights of the child.

European countries often have additional days dedicated to children – for example, some countries have children’s Rights Day, education day, or family day. in Ukraine, June 1 combines several important aspects at once – social, legal, and cultural.

1. Social inequality-many families remain below the poverty line. Children lack quality nutrition, medical services, and learning opportunities.

2. Psychological traumatization-the topic of post-traumatic stress among children has become one of the most acute. Systematic programs of psychological assistance are still being formed.

3. Access to education – remote training, lack of equipment, destroyed infrastructure – all this creates new challenges for the state.

4. Protecting children in the digital world – cyberbullying, online fraud, dangerous online communities-is another important area of work.

Why is children’s Day important for everyone?

This day reminds society that protecting children is not just a matter for the state or individual organizations. Every adult – parents, teachers, volunteers, neighbors – plays a role in shaping the future of young citizens.

Children cannot defend their rights on their own. They depend on the attention, responsibility, and wisdom of adults. And it is children’s day that reminds us that every neglected child’s right is a blow to the future of our country.

Children’s day in Ukraine is not just a holiday. It is a symbol of responsibility, a reminder of society’s duty to create an environment where every child has the right to safety, development and happiness. Modern conditions make this task difficult, but even more important. Ukraine continues to move towards a society where the protection of children will become not only a slogan, but also a reality embodied in state policy, public activity and daily actions of each of us.

So June 1 is a day that reminds us: children are our present and our future. And how we take care of them today depends on what our country will be like tomorrow.

We care about protecting children at AISU school

Child Protection is not just a duty of the state or individual organizations. It is the responsibility of every educational institution that creates an environment where a child spends a significant part of their life. In modern conditions, when Ukrainian children face unprecedented challenges – war, psychological stress, information risks, changes in the educational process – the issue of child protection at school becomes the number 1 priority. that is why AISU school has built a systematic, comprehensive policy aimed at protecting each child, their physical, emotional and social well-being.

It is of particular importance that every year in Ukraine on June 1, children’s day is celebrated. This is an important date designed to draw public attention to the problems and needs of the younger generation. At AISU, we don’t just remember this day – we actively participate in it, turning it into an important informational, educational and practical event. On children’s day in Ukraine, our school holds thematic events, educational lessons, interactive activities aimed at developing children’s knowledge about safety and their own rights. However, the main thing is that every day, and not just on June 1, we implement systematic work based on modern approaches to care, care and development.

Why is the protection of children in school a key element of modern education? A school is a place where children not only learn, but also socialize, form a worldview, learn to interact and build relationships. Therefore, the priority of school life is safety. It covers a lot of aspects: physical protection of children, psychological safety, countering bullying, information protection, as well as a healthy and comfortable environment.

The Life of a Ukrainian child today is significantly complicated by such factors as constant air alarms, lack of stability, possible traumatic experiences, changes in the usual rhythm, moving, separation from loved ones. All this requires the school not just to perform a learning function, but to create an environment where the child feels supported, protected and cared for.

That is why at AISU we have formed a multi – level system of child protection, which includes rules, procedures, special programs, staff training and, most importantly, a sincere desire to make learning safe and high-quality for each student.

How does AISU school join the celebration of children’s day? AISU school traditionally joins the celebration of children’s day in Ukraine. For us, this day is not a formality, but an opportunity to once again remind students, parents and teachers: the child has the right to respect, security, joy, development and stability.

As part of our celebration of children’s day, we organize:

  • thematic lessons on the rights of the child;
  • meetings with psychologists and security specialists;
  • interactive quests on the basics of security;
  • creative workshops and contests on friendship, support and kindness;
  • charity events for children in difficult life circumstances;
  • trainings on safe behavior on the internet;
  • civil protection classes;
  • discussions about the importance of peace and harmony.

We want children’s day not just to be a date in the calendar. This day is a reminder that the most valuable thing in a country is its children, which means that all adults are responsible for them.

To make every student feel confident and calm, we have created a comprehensive security system. It consists of several important components. AISU school child protection system and our key areas:

1. Physical safety-priority # 1. Physical Protection of children includes:

  • equipped with shelters that meet the standards of the State Emergency Service;
  • regular evacuation and emergency training;
  • control of access to the school grounds;
  • video surveillance in the corridors and in the yard’
  • clear instructions for personnel to act in case of danger;
  • availability of all necessary first aid facilities.

Each AISU employee receives special training in crisis response. We understand that protecting children at school begins with the willingness of adults to act quickly, confidently and professionally.

2. Psychological security and support. Modern children often experience stress, fears, and emotional stress. Therefore, we have created a psychological support system based on openness, trust and professionalism.

The school employs experienced psychologists who:

  • conduct individual consultations;
  • organize group classes;
  • teach children stress tolerance and self-regulation;
  • interact with teachers and parents;
  • implement programs for the Prevention of emotional burnout of students.

Psychological protection of children is the basis of a healthy learning environment. We want every child to know that they are heard, understood and supported at AISU school.

3. Countering bullying and forming a culture of mutual respect. Bullying is one of the most serious problems of modern schools. AISU has a holistic anti-bullying policy that includes:

  • informing students about the inadmissibility of aggression;
  • creating secure channels for anonymous messages;
  • prompt response in case of conflicts;
  • work with psychologists and social educators;
  • trainings on emotional intelligence and nonviolent communication.

We are building a school culture where every child understands that protecting children at school is also their personal responsibility for an atmosphere of respect and friendship.

4. Information Protection of children. Modern schoolchildren live in a digital space that can be dangerous. That’s why we teach children:

  • recognize fake information;
  • avoid risky online contacts;
  • use social networks safely;
  • protect your personal data;
  • respond to cyberbullying.

AISU teachers are regularly trained in digital security, because protecting children in an online environment is one of the key competencies of a modern school.

5. Partnership with parents. It is impossible to ensure full protection of children without cooperation with their parents. We constantly maintain contact with them, conduct:

  • open meetings and consultations;
  • trainings on digital and psychological security;
  • webinars on the development of emotional support for a child;
  • regularly informing about school policy.

Parents are part of our large educational community, and together we create an environment where the child feels protected.

Why does AISU school pay so much attention to Child Protection? Because children are our future. And the future of Ukraine. Because of the trials that the country is going through, the importance of protecting children increases significantly. We believe that the quality of education depends on security. A child can fully learn only where he is not afraid, where he feels stable, where he knows that adults are nearby.

Child Protection is not a separate measure, but a philosophy that permeates every aspect of AISU school life.

We care about the future today!AISU school is proud to have a comprehensive system aimed at protecting children in school at all levels – physical, psychological, informational and social. We take care of the comfort and peace of mind of students every day, not only during thematic events or on children’s day.

We are proud to join the children’s day in Ukraine, because this holiday reminds us of the most important thing – the value of every child’s life. And we are confident that by creating a safe, positive and friendly environment today, we are building the foundation for a strong, educated and happy society tomorrow.an educated and happy society tomorrow.
