Summer holidays
Start of summer vacation
Summer holidays are a golden time for every schoolchild, a long-awaited period of freedom, rest and new experiences. After a busy school year full of lessons, homework, and tests, it’s time to put aside your textbooks and fully immerse yourself in the world of adventure. In Ukraine, this period has its own characteristics and symbolism, which we will now consider in detail.
When do summer school holidays start in Ukraine? Traditionally, summer holidays in Ukrainian schools begin on June 1. This date is well-established and marks the official end of the school year for most students. Although the last call is usually held at the end of May (as we have already discussed, in 2025 it is May 30), in fact, the educational process ends with the onset of the first day of summer. Of course, for graduates of the 9th and 11th grades who pass exams (NMT), the learning process can last longer, until the end of the exam session. However, for the vast majority of students, June 1 is a symbol of the beginning of summer holidays.
What marks the beginning of the summer holidays? The beginning of the summer holidays is marked by several key events and sensations:
- The Last Bell is a solemn holiday that symbolizes the end of the school year. This is a moment of summing up the results, thanking teachers, saying goodbye to classmates and anticipating rest.
- Perhaps the most anticipated”symbol” of the holidays for most students. The ability to forget your daily tasks and just enjoy your free time.
- The Bell no longer wakes up early in the morning, there is no need to rush to school. The daily routine becomes more free and depends on the child’s wishes and family plans.
- Summer holidays are the perfect time to devote yourself to your favorite activities: reading, Sports,Creativity, walking.
- The feeling of freedom and carelessness is a period when you can recover, gain impressions and just enjoy your childhood or youth.
What opportunities do summer holidays open up for schoolchildren?
Summer holidays are not just a period of rest, but also a time for comprehensive development:
- First of all, this is an opportunity to physically and emotionally relax from the stressful educational process. Sleep, fresh air, and active games help you recover your strength.
- Holidays are an ideal time for family travel, discovering new places in Ukraine and abroad, and exploring different cultures.
- Children can devote time to their favorite activities that were not always available during the school year:drawing, music, programming, cooking, sports, etc.

- Many children attend summer schools, language courses, creative workshops, where learning takes place in a light tanevimusheniy form.
- For older students, the holidays can become a period when they learn independence, help their parents, and learn new everyday skills.
How to make summer holidays as productive and interesting as possible?
To remember the summer holidays as a real holiday, you should follow a few tips:
- Discuss in advance with your child what she would like to do. Make a rough plan, but leave room for spontaneity and new ideas.
- Do not overload your child with activities and mugs. It is important that there is time for both free games and just”doing nothing”.
- Encourage children to read. It can be not only school literature, but also fascinating art books, encyclopedias, comics.
