🎃 Halloween 2025 🎃
Halloween 2025 – present traditions and deep history of the holiday
Halloween is one of the brightest and most commercialized holidays in the modern world. It is celebrated in the United States, Canada, Europe, Ukraine and many other countries, and 2025 was no exception – at the end of October, the streets are again filled with pumpkins with lanterns, monster costumes, sweets and cheerful noise. However, today’s Halloween is not only a popular tradition, but also an important cultural phenomenon that introduces us to ancient beliefs, historical transformations and the significance of the holiday in our time.
In 2025, Halloween continues to develop and take on new forms, combining digital technologies, creativity, International Customs and even social initiatives. But before you move on to modern trends, you should plunge into the centuries-old history of this event. The history of Halloween is a journey from Celtic rituals to entertainment centers of the XXI century.
Ancient roots – Samhain-a celebration of the living and the dead.
The first mention of the tradition associated with Halloween leads us to the Celts, who more than two thousand years ago celebrated Samhain – the mystical transition from summer to winter. For the Celts, October 31 was the last night of the year: at this time, the border between the worlds of the living and the dead allegedly disappeared.
They believed:
- Ancestral souls return home
- With them come dark creatures that can harm
- We need to protect our homes from evil
Protection consisted of rituals: people lit large bonfires, put on scary masks to scare off spirits or deceive them, as if they themselves were otherworldly creatures. This is considered the prototype of modern costumes.
As Christianity spread across Europe, the church sought to adapt pagan holidays.
in the IX century, it was established:
- November 1 – All Hallows Day
- November 2 – All Souls ‘ Day
The night before was called All Hallows’ Eve, which eventually turned into Halloween.
However, some traditions – costumes, divination, stories about spirits – remained, although they received a new interpretation.
Migration to the new world – the birth of modern Halloween. Together with immigrants from Europe, the customs of Samhain came to America. There they mixed with the cultures of other peoples and turned into a celebration of fun, traditions that are familiar to us today:
- Trick-or-treating-children go home begging for sweets
- Jack-O’ – lantern-pumpkin lantern, symbolically driving away evil spirits
- Parties in costumes
- Theme of ghosts, vampires, monsters
By the way, at first turnips were used instead of pumpkins. Only in the United States did pumpkin become a symbol of the holiday, because this vegetable was widely cultivated and had a suitable appearance.
Halloween in 2025 and new trends and opportunities. Today, Halloween is a social and economic event, especially in Western countries. The costume, decor, horror, and themed party industries generate billions of dollars in profit.
There are several important trends in 2025:
1. Ecological approach.
- Many people choose costumes made from recycled materials
- Rejection of disposable decor
- Pumpkins after the holiday are transferred to animal feed or composted
2. VR and AR entertainment.
- Digital horror quests
- “Virtual haunted houses”
- Online hangouts for those who celebrate remotely
3.New characters in costumes.
- Memes and characters from social networks
- Images from artificial intelligence
- Cyberpunk Heroes
4. Charity Halloween – in many cities, instead of “candy or death”, children and adults collect things and money to help hospitals and animal shelters.
holiday symbolism, What does each image mean?
- Pumpkin with a carved face-a symbol of protection, light that dispels darkness
- Monster costumes – a way to show your bravery and deceive evil spirits
- Black Cat – in the Middle Ages it was associated with witches
- Web, skulls , skeletons-a reminder of the transience of life
These elements are not random – each of them carries echoes of ancient beliefs. Holiday or entertainment? View from different angles. Despite the popularity of Halloween, the attitude towards it is very different.
Positive aspects:
- Promotes creativity of children and adults
- Unites people, gives fun
- Preserves cultural traditions and history
- Develops the creative industry
Negative aspects:
- Commercialization, excessive consumption
- Images of horror and death are sometimes emphasized
- Christian communities in some countries criticize the holiday as “pagan”
In 2025, these discussions continue, but more and more people perceive Halloween not as a religious or mystical rite, but as a cultural holiday with elements of a show.
Halloween in the world, how is it celebrated in different countries?
- USA and Canada-costumes, sweets, neighborhoods decorated to the point of fright
- Mexico – “day of the dead”, a colorful and joyful memory of our ancestors
- Ireland-a return to the roots of Samhain
- Japan-cosplay parades, huge festivals
- Ukraine-parties, movie shows, quests, but also preserves its own traditions of commemorating the dead
Each country reinterprets Halloween in its own way.
In Ukraine, the holiday has gained popularity in recent decades. It is often associated with youth culture, the bar industry, quests and creative events. It has also become an opportunity for business: cafes, cinemas, shopping centers hold thematic promotions.
However, there is also criticism in Ukrainian society – some believe that Western traditions displace local ones. But even skeptics admit that Halloween has become an element of modern cultural exchange.
People have always been attracted to the topic of the supernatural. And Halloween meets this need – to experience controlled fear, to play with images of darkness.
psychologists explain:
fear in a safe environment gives adrenaline, joy and a sense of unity with others.
That’s why horror movies and “haunted houses” are so popular during this period. The future of Halloween or what awaits in the coming years?
You can predict several directions for the development of the holiday:
- Even more digital solutions: virtual monsters, artificial intelligence, interactive quests
- Globalization of traditions through social networks
- Creative freedom-mixing styles and cultures
- Expanding charitable and educational initiatives
Halloween has already ceased to be just fun – it brings to the surface cultural, social and environmental themes.
Halloween 2025 is a colorful bridge between the past and the future.
The Holiday, whose roots go back to the Celtic rituals of Samhain, has become a global tradition that:
- Preserves the mystical and historical character
- Simultaneously adapts to the rhythm of modern life
- Unites people in a fun and creative atmosphere
Yes, there is controversy and criticism around Halloween – some see it as light and joy, others as dark ideas and commercialization. But one thing is certain: it continues to develop, remaining a holiday that knows how to surprise.
Let Halloween 2025 become for everyone not just an occasion for fun, but an opportunity to reflect on our attitude to the past, traditions and our own fear. Because sometimes the most terrible images help us better understand who we really are.
Halloween – October 31 at AISU school
Halloween is a holiday that every year brings with it a fabulous atmosphere, the expectation of something a little mysterious, but undoubtedly fun. Traditionally, it is celebrated on October 31, but this year the AISU school decided to add intrigue and pre-holiday mood earlier. It was on October 24 that the corridors of the school were filled with little vampires, witches, superheroes, favorites of cartoons and movies, fairy-tale creatures and wizards. Although the official date of Halloween is still ahead, AISU has already had enough of a separate, special day that will remain in the memory of students, teachers and parents for a long time to come.
This holiday was a great opportunity to combine creativity, play, learning and cultural knowledge. Each class prepared for the event in advance: they discussed images, looked for interesting costumes, decorated the room, and taught English-language traditions of this day. Therefore, on October 24, the school did not just change clothes – there was a real immersion in the atmosphere of international culture and fun.
Animated costumes, a magical parade of fictional characters! From the very morning, AISU turned into a fantastic Kingdom. On the doorstep of the school, guests were greeted by characters that can only be seen in cartoons and movies: from brave pirates and charming princesses to terrifying zombies and funny skeletons. Students proudly showed off their images, and teachers who also joined the celebration supported the atmosphere of complete immersion in Halloween.
Thanks to the costumes, children had the opportunity to feel like the heroes of the stories they love, as well as show their own individuality. Someone created images with their own hands – made masks, painted clothes, added makeup – thus, the holiday also became a creative workshop. A particularly exciting moment was the costume parade, when each student could demonstrate their appearance in front of friends and teachers. The school seemed to come alive and filled with movement, colors, and shouts of delight.
Games, contests and sweet surprises are a joy for both kids and adults. The holiday was thought out to the smallest detail: various thematic activities and competitions were held at the school. Children solved Halloween riddles, completed quests in classrooms and corridors, were creative – they cut paper pumpkins, created themed crafts, and even learned new English words related to the holiday.
Without sweets, of course, also did not do. Kids were waiting for surprises and small gifts, because the main Halloween principle “Trick or Treat” was not canceled. Students received candy for their activity, participation in competitions, and even for the most original costumes. All this filled the children with positive emotions and added excitement.
It is important that educators and teachers turned the holiday not only into fun, but also into an educational experience: children learned about the traditions of other countries, learned mutual respect, because each costume is the result of someone’s work and imagination.
️ ️ Scenery that created the atmosphere of a fairy-tale town. The whole school joined the celebration – the windows, corridors and doors of classrooms were decorated with thematic elements. Hung cobwebs, painted ghosts, pumpkins with smiles, dark silhouettes of bats, stickers on the walls and even musical accompaniment created the impression that students got into the world of Tim Burton cartoons or a fairy tale about adventures on the night before the feast of All Saints.
Each class tried to make its own room special. Thus, children did not just observe the beautiful design – they themselves participated in its creation, which developed responsibility, teamwork and aesthetic taste.
Emotions that inspire: impressions of students and teachers. After the end of the holiday, impressions raged for a long time in the student groups. The kids shared photos, discussed the costumes of friends, laughed at funny moments and dreamed about the next year – after all, Halloween inspires not only to have fun, but also to be creative.
For teachers, this day was also a great opportunity to take a break from routine and feel that learning can be combined with play and creativity. After all, school is not only lessons and textbooks, but also an atmosphere that motivates you to develop and enjoy the educational process.
Such events unite the school family, give a good mood and create memories that remain for a long time.
Cultural content is more than just a holiday. At AISU, Halloween is also an opportunity to expand the horizons of children. Students were taught the history of the holiday, its origins and the difference between the cultural significance of Halloween in different countries of the world.
Children learned:
- Where does the tradition of carving pumpkins come from
- Why do costumes sometimes look intimidating
- That there are similar holidays in the world associated with the memory of our ancestors
- How Halloween is celebrated in the USA, Canada, Japan and Europe
This approach allows you not only to have fun, but also to learn the language and cultural features of the English – speaking world-in an easy and interesting format.
🌟 Halloween 2024 at AISU school was 100% successful
Although the official date of Halloween is October 31, AISU School celebrated it on the 24th, and this did not detract from the joy that this day was filled with. The holiday gave children the opportunity to feel like heroes, reveal their imagination, communicate in an informal atmosphere and learn a lot about the world.
It was a day when every smile was sincere, every costume was original, and every moment was important.
and the best thing is that after the end of the holiday, there was a desire to create further, wait for the next year and new impressions.
AISU proved that a school can be a place where learning becomes a holiday, and a holiday is a step towards development.
